Ever since HDMI cable was introduced, cable malfunctions have been the bane of properly-functioning audio-video setups. Whether a malfunction stems from faulty manufacture or cable damage during installation, it is essential to know if the cable is the problem. VRN-HD’s new PR19A HDMI Cable Tester quickly and easily tests an HDMI cable from both ends, verifies the connectors’ pin configuration, and confirms the integrity of the fragile internal wires. If a cable contains a wiring fault, the PR19A identifies it as an open, a short, or a reverse – not simply the “pass” or “fail” that most testers report.

VRN-PR19A provides a 9-volt DC continuity test on all the HDMI cable’s active pins, proceeding through the pins automatically or one button-press at a time, as the user chooses. Any faults detected are identified as open, short, or reverse by a 3-color LED. Each TMDS channel (positive wire, negative wire, and shield wire), the CEC, SCL, and SDA channels, the +5V channel, and the HPD channel are tested. The PR19A can perform both loopback tests on uninstalled cables and remote tests on installed cables.

VRN-PR19A can also test DVI cables, using an HDMI-male to DVI-female adapter (#PR-19HD), and it features a battery-low indicator to prevent misreadings. It is an essential tool for the professional or amateur troubleshooting any audio-video setup using HDMI or DVI cable.
